We are happy to support HOPE community services in New Rochelle with 100 – 120 sandwich meals once a month, consisting of a ham and cheese sandwich, a piece of fruit and a treat. We started in February, and are happy to report that we are starting to get the hang of it! Creative Playtime parents are also helping out, and in April, our Confirmation Class provided a whole additional session all by themselves! Kudos! Check the calendar section for dates, and join us! We usually get the coffee pot going, and have some goodies for the assembly line workers ready, too!
Grace Lutheran Church is happy to announce the launch of our new outreach program.
As a support to HOPE Community Services in New Rochelle, we will make 100 cheese and ham sandwiches once a month (for starters), and also provide 100 pieces of fruit with that. HOPE operates a large food pantry and soup kitchen for people and families in need, and enlists the help of various churches who rotate their efforts.
On Wednesday, February 9, we’ll start our first ‘sandwich assembly line’ in the Social Hall at 9.15am! Please join us if this feels like a project that you would like to be part of. We’ll do the shopping, and we’ll also get the coffee machine going, so all you need to do is bring your hands!
After that, our next planned sandwich-days are: March 9, April 6, May 4, same time, same place. And if we get a lot of enthusiasm going for this project, we can maybe increase our help to HOPE to twice a month or even once a week. HOPE has told us that the need for food is great, and that any and all of our contributions will be very much appreciated.
So come and give us and HOPE a hand!
Come join us in providing back-packs and school supplies to the New LIFE School in the Bronx!
All August long, we’ll collect the items that come in and display them around the altar, until in early September, they’ll be picked up and driven to the school, to hopefully give a lot of children a better start into the new school year.
The New Life School is a state/publicly funded special education program for students diagnosed with learning, speech and psychiatric disabilities. The school serves children between the ages of 11-21, in grades 6-12. It is part of Lutheran Social Services of New York.
So come in, pick a back-pack leaflet in the Narthex that will explain what items to buy, and join this worthy cause! And we get to enjoy a colorfully decorated altar all August long in the process!
